It is better to see your doctor. He will ask details about the condition, examine your joints, may ask you to do some investigations, and prescribe some medications.

    Management of knee joint pains:

    1. Reduce your body weight, if you are obese or overweight. Elevated body weight can damage the tissues of the knee joint.
    2. Do regular local muscle strengthening and general aerobic fitness exercises.
    3. Use most suitable footwear for your body (shock-absorbing.)
    4. Apply cold or heat pack to the surrounding tissues of the joint.
    5. Your health-care professional may ask you to use particular assistive devices, supports and braces.
    6. Your doctor may prescribe Paracetamol, and local application of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as the first-line treatment.
    7. If the first-line treatment failed to manage your condition, your health-care professional may prescribe oral NSAIDs, opioids, intra-articular steroid injections, or/and capsaicin local applications as second-line treatment.
    8. Trans-cutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for pain relief.
