Arthritis is inflammation of one or more joints, which results in pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited movement. There are over 100 different types of arthritis.

    Causes, incidence, and risk factors

Arthritis involves the breakdown of cartilage. Cartilage normally protects the joint, allowing for smooth movement. Cartilage also absorbs shock when pressure is placed on the joint, like when you walk. Without the usual amount of cartilage, the bones rub together, causing pain, swelling (inflammation), and stiffness.

Hi Peter, Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disorder, where the body attacks itself. In some people with rheumatoid arthritis, chronic inflammation leads to the destruction of the cartilage, bone, and ligaments, causing deformity of the joints.

    Hi Peter,

Rheumatoid arthritis: is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can also cause inflammation of the tissue around the joints, as well as in other organs in the body. While rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic illness, meaning it can last for years, patients may experience long periods without symptoms. However, rheumatoid arthritis is typically a progressive illness that has the potential to cause joint destruction and functional disability.

Some RA Relief: While physical activity is important for everyone, you have extra reason to get and stay active if you have RA. Regular exercise can help you build strong muscles, improve or maintain flexibility, and preserve mobility. It can also help you reduce stress, sleep better, boost your mood, relieve pain, and lose weight, which helps take stress off painful joints.

Resting: Though exercise is important when you have RA, it's crucial that you balance activity with rest. Rest is especially important when your disease is active, it helps reduce joint inflammation, ease pain, and tiredness. It's difficult to say how long each person should rest because it's different for each person. In general, it's better to take short rest breaks during the day than to stay in bed all day.
If joint pain makes it difficult to get the sleep you need at night, try taking a warm bath before bedtime.

The symptoms of arthritis can be alleviated by changing your diet, sometimes removing potatoes, tomatoes and other
"nightshade" foods from your diet can have dramatic effects also wine, alcohol of any kind and coffee can aggravate the condition - these are all acid forming foods. My daughter experienced great changes in her arthritic condition by eliminating
these foods from her diet. I take a supplement of ginger and turmeric to help with the pain in my wrists and hands - I make
up my own and take 4 - 6 capsules a day - ginger and turmeric are natural anti-inflammatories and the only side effects
are improved digestion - hope this helps.

Inflammation of the joints or arthritis causes suffering for many people. However, the ancient Chinese health system known as Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM has been aiding people with arthritic joints for centuries. A combination of herbal formulas, dietary changes, acupuncture/acupressure and massage may help deal with arthritis symptoms.

Analgesics are medications to lessen pain. Acetaminophen falls into this category. These drugs are usually well tolerated by most patients but some patients experience side effects like an upset stomach.

My mother's arthritis is acting up, I read that there are swimming lessons available, but I just think that for a woman in her 70's the idea of slippery poolsides sounds dangerous.

Are there studies available for this?

they will help reduce your arthritis pain:

Exercise: Get plenty of regular exercise to keep pounds off and reduce arthritis pain and stiffness.
Eat a healthy diet: Stick to low-fat, low-calorie foods and plan your meals and snacks to be sure you're getting lots of fruits and vegetables
    through your diet.
Get vitamin C: Studies have shown that vitamin C may be helpful in managing inflammation in the body. So dig into an orange or pour yourself a glass of grapefruit juice each day.
Keep track of your weight: Even a few extra pounds can worsen arthritis pain, so talk to your doctor to determine your healthiest weight.
Focus on that number as your goal, and track your weight loss until you reach it.
Avoid alcohol. Don't medicate yourself with alcohol to manage pain; it will only create more problems, and add calories to your diet.
Arthritis Pain and Stress:Feeling stressed, depressed, and overwhelmed by arthritis pain is common, but such emotional reactions may actually make your arthritis pain feel worse and inhibit you from doing what you know you need to, like exercising and taking medications.

Inflammation of knee joints will certainly cause a lot of pain. If you think you are suffering from arthritis, you need to be wary of the type of food that you consume. There are medications that can help alleviate the pain, but it's better to seek doctor's advice for long-term cure for arthritis.

There is more miss information than fact in arthritis.
1 Rheumatoid arthritis is not an autoimmune disease it is caused by a Mycoplasma and can be cured with [mincocycline , tetracycline] this has been cured in animals but because people can pay they have called it an autoimmune disease so you can pay forever.
2 Arthritis is a complex of nutritional deficiencies you need to rebuild your bones and joints. What are they made from calcium, magnesium, copper, selenium and zinc. With cartilage or chondroitin sulphate [gelatine] for the joints.
Here again the doctor want to give you pain killers instead of curing treat the symptom not the cause.

I know a doctor who has rebuilt all joints so surgery was not needed all with nutrition. Here is a good example Theophilus Curtis Ratliff he played basketball. Five years into his career he blow out his knees which would have finished his career. He met a Dr. Joel Wallach who in less than a year rebuilt his knees and went on to be one of the longest playing players in basketball. Making over 100 million after he fixed his knees.
Don't let the doctors try and tell you there is nothing you can do or the only answer is surgery.
Enjoying perfect health and going to live beyond 120 years
